Please let me know any improvements/corrections. And here's how you can help with mapping files for other WADs. --Dynamo128 (talk) 04:56, 14 March 2023 (CDT)

The things data table does not list several things and monsters that are encountered in the map because they are spawned by scripts via SpawnSpotFacing into the positions of map spots identified by their tag number. Since this is obviously not accounted for through the usual process, i went ahead and added all extra things to the table by hand.
Most of the monsters are spawned by script 22, which is activated when the player opens the path to the fake beach at the campsite near the mirror gas station. Other scripts that include the SpawnSpotFacing function are script 6, which spawns the colored balls along the floor in the house; script 36, which spawns the blots inside the airplane; script 40, which spawns the berserk on the floor in the daycare; script 58, which spawns the hemodemons in the bathhouse ambush; and script 68, which is used to spawn the soulsphere (actually two of them) the player sees through the window in the second house.
Note that i purposely left out the berserk spawned by script 40 since it also removes the one on the shelf and spawns a new one on the ground to simulate the berserk having fallen down - so there's still only one present in the map at any time. And I left out the colored balls spawned on the ground through script 6 since these can't be interacted with and are only there to guide the player towards the entrance of the daycare. I also removed the columns for skills 6-8 from the table because, while these are defined for several mobjs in the map, there are actually only the standard 5 difficulties used in the mod. --Gregor (talk) 22:47, 12 May 2023 (CDT)

Suggested wording change[edit]

The naming convention used for rooms in the house is a bit confusing. The garage-like room with a car-sized entrance is referred to as the boiler room. The room in the basement containing a hot water boiler is referred to as a laundry room. The upstairs room with laundry machines is not called the laundry room. Unless there is other reason, I'd re-word the page so that: boiler room -> garage, laundry room -> boiler room, and referring to the upstairs room with laundry equipment as the laundry room. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6c50:187f:56a3:5542:64e4:e6f2:a45d (talk)

Music Credits[edit]

So essel revealed recently in the release thread that she composed the ambient track for this map. However, would crediting her in the opening description be spoilery? Should we put her credit in a section below, or do we not care about this? I could just write, "with additional music from [insert essel here]" in the description in that case. --BuildCat (talk) 02:05, 1 April 2023 (CDT)

Capitalization of area names[edit]

Jimmy chose to capitalize most area names in the article such the House, Daycare, the Bathhouse and the Brutalist House. This was obviously done for emphasis, and I guess this could be seen as falling under artistic license, but it isn't correct English at the end of the day and Jimmy didn't use it consistently, either. In my most recent edit i sought to remedy that by using consistent capitalization for these areas throughout, but perhaps it would be best to simply remove all non-standard capitalization from the article to avoid confusion. --Gregor (talk) 03:33, 13 April 2023 (CDT)

I can't trust this article[edit]

There's so much WP:UNIVERSE here that I can't trust 99% of this. Should we rewrite the offending sections, or rip them out? I'm for either - the extra information is interesting, but it's not true. ConSiGno (talk) 17:35, 19 May 2023 (CDT)

What sections are you referring to specifically? Which information do you think is inaccurate or "not true"? --Gregor (talk) 19:43, 19 May 2023 (CDT)
I have addressed this by clarifying that the information in "Inspiration and development" is posted by/according to the author and that the journal entries contain supernatural phenomena (that is, up to insinuating that the author is dead and has delivered the files from the afterlife). Remember this is a factual encyclopedia first of all; there is space to debate the reality of such things elsewhere but we at least present what is known in strictly factual terms. The information is most reasonably explained as being part of an ARG-like immersive fiction effort and the wiki will reflect that. --Quasar (talk) 19:51, 19 May 2023 (CDT)
That goes without saying. But I don't see any real issue here. The article is factual aka not from an in-universe perspective. The walkthrough and the other points of interest sections list facts about the contents of the mod. Same with the technical info and trivia. The only statements i can find that are bit ARG-ish in nature are those in the "Inspiration and development" section you edited. But what else? --Gregor (talk) 20:38, 19 May 2023 (CDT)
CSG said her concerns were addressed by my edit, so that would be the only bit she was worried about. --Quasar (talk) 20:44, 19 May 2023 (CDT)

Action Doom 2 Reference in gas station?[edit]

I don't see this talked much, but the song that plays in the gas station is the elevator theme from Action Doom 2 : Urban Brawl. Unless that song itself is ripped from another game (I doubt since the game has its own soundtrack.), I feel like an edit should be made acknowledging this. --Elybit (talk) 23:40, 26 May 2023 (CDT)

References within Myhouse.pk3[edit]

Pretty much every reference seems to be written down here, however I would like to bring up the entity in the brutalist house potentially being a reference to Super Mario Galaxy 2's hell valley sky trees, given the similar shape and elusive presence. Maybe I'm reading too far into it, as a warpy, round, black shadow creature is pretty generic, but I'd like to know what other editors think. Lubba127 (talk) 09:35, 27 May 2023 (CDT)

I think you are reading too much into it. The figure in the brutalist house has the shape of a gaunt, demonic woman (?); it doesn't resemble the Japanese folklore spirits from SMG2 very much apart from being all black and spooky. A shadowy specter watching you from behind a window or pillar in a liminal concrete hotel complex is also kind of a liminal spaces clichè; you expect it to be there, like the skinstealer found inside the backrooms. Mario Galaxy 2 is not the direct inspiration here, i think. --Gregor (talk) 18:49, 28 May 2023 (CDT)

The mattress in the attic might be a reference to the Hellraiser movie —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.58.63.108 (talk)

Incorrect spelling in Technical information[edit]

Section includes "non-Euclidian geometry", which is misspelled. Should be "non-Euclidean geometry", and if possible should link to {{wp|non-Euclidean geometry}} instead of "Euclidean geometry". Levi OP (talk) 15:55, 27 May 2023 (CDT)

The name of the soundtrack made by james paddock[edit]

Hello. I asked james paddock if the track he made for My House had a name. He responded with that it was named "Entryway at the End of Time"

Heres twitter comments as proof: https://twitter.com/JamesPaddock/status/1662787752239177729 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SASTSimon (talkcontribs) .

I am confused as to what his contribution is, as the article is currently stating that only two songs are used, one of which is the vanilla "Running From Evil". If that's not in fact the Running From Evil exactly as written by Bobby Prince then the article needs some clarification to explain that first, instead of making it sound like it's the normal vanilla music. Extremely confusing. --Quasar (talk) 00:26, 29 May 2023 (CDT)
The mod starts off with plain, old Running From Evil by Bobby Prince, but as soon as the player enters the second house, the music seemingly resets to the beginning of the midi, but in reality it switches to Jimmy's song. Jimmy's version is also Running from Evil at first but after the first loop it starts to decay gradually into a distorted nightmarish version of it. We didn't have a name for this song until Jimmy's recent tweet, it's called just RUNNIN2.mid inside the pk3, so that's why i named it "Running From Evil", indicating that it's not just the original by the fact that Jimmy is named as the composer instead of Bobby Prince.
The intro text could be revised to: It was designed by Steve Nelson (Veddge) and uses two custom music tracks, "Entryway at the End of Time" and "memory=entryrrrr/////, the former of which was composed by James Paddock (Jimmy) and the latter by Sarah Mancuso (esselfortium) --Gregor (talk) 09:00, 29 May 2023 (CDT)
That's three tracks by my count so I mention all three. --Quasar (talk) 07:34, 1 June 2023 (CDT)

Exit In backrooms[edit]

While my friend was playing this trying to get back to the bathhouse when he entered the backrooms. After a short while in the backrooms and wandering (seemingly endlessly) He found a exit door that leads to the infinite staircase room. I wanted to leave a message here for the correction on the wiki stating the backrooms had no escape. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6010:803:780d:6070:5706:413f:f850 (talk)

The walkthrough does state that the backrooms have an exit and also that they are connected to the endless stairs. See sections "Optional areas" and "The endless staircase". --Gregor (talk) 09:12, 29 May 2023 (CDT)

Proposing a small hints section[edit]

I've watched a dozen or two blind playthroughs of MyHouse on Twitch and YouTube, and I've noticed a few things. Most players trying to get the good ending end up needing and asking people for hints. I've seen stream chatters give many different hints and I've seen how they affect the player. I've seen chat members give small hints that worked, and I've also seen chat members give terrible overly-spoilery hints, that weren't even relevant to the part of the map the player was on, that seem to be based on them skimming this wiki page to come up with a hint for the player. Most players are able to get through to the ending on very small hints.

I believe many people come to this page either when they're stuck in the map, or when someone they're trying to help is stuck in the map, and both these groups would hugely benefit if the page had a good small hint section before the full spoilery walkthrough section.

I've seen that there are a couple very small hints that reliably get players to fully complete the map:

  • For the best ending, you must avoid the house fire.
  • Pay attention to the usable object in the attic.
  • Check the sinks.
  • Follow the right wall on entering the locker rooms.

I don't think the hints section should contain any more than this. These hints are meant to be minimally spoilery if they're all given to someone, though it might still be best for them to be added to the page so each one has its own "Show" button before being displayed to encourage players to dole out the hints to themselves minimally. Macil (talk) 23:10, 4 July 2023 (CDT)

I would recommend in general to wait a bit longer from proposing something on a talk page to implementing it on the page itself. The point of proposing something first after all is to wait for possible feedback. 10-12 minutes isn't a lot of time to react. ;) --Gregor (talk) 14:05, 5 July 2023 (CDT)

"The Most Mysterious Song..."[edit]

I think we should hold off on adding the info to the article that "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" has been identified. This information has only been released a few days ago and hasn't been proven yet. The wikipedia article on the song, as of writing this, has not been updated to reflect the identity of the song either – they only added it to the trivia section and there is an ongoing discussion on the talk page of the article about what to do and when. I don't think we have to add this before they do, especially considering that the identity of the song is not crucial information for myhouse anyways. I also don't see how the two YouTube video links that have been added by Dark Pulse are relevant additions to the article – the information in the first video does not prove anything and the alternate recording of the song could very well be a fake; not saying it is, but stranger things have happened and we do live in the age of AI software. Let's just hold off on this until the dust has settled. --Gregor (talk) 05:40, 6 November 2024 (CST)

Well, that went a lot faster than I thought, but by now wikipedia has moved the song's article to a new page under its "new" name and enough evidence has come out to all but confirm that the song was indeed written by FEX. --Gregor (talk) 01:06, 7 November 2024 (CST)

The previous edit hadn't yet been made and rejected when I first considered adding mine. Now that WP's much more stringent editing process has decided the ID is credible enough for a page title change, it's probably safe to keep.

Though I almost misnamed the band, because I'm so much more used to hearing about KEX in this community Captain Walker (talk) 10:23, 7 November 2024 (CST)

April 2025 update to myhouse.pk3[edit]

Veddge updated the PK3 with a new version that makes quite a few changes to the map overall. I haven't dived into all of these yet but it's clear that the map view will have to be updated since several new areas were added as well. However, since myhouse has been more widely covered in analysis videos and walkthroughs than any other Doom mod, and all of these used the version of the map with the original layout, I think the old map view should be retained as a references for people wondering why these new areas aren't seen and covered in all those analysis videos. After all, with some of these videos having hundreds of thousands or even millions of views, they will be continued to be discovered and watched by new people for years to come. --Gregor (talk) 12:34, 27 April 2025 (CDT)

Agreed, this is not a typical case at all. --Quasar (talk) 14:06, 27 April 2025 (CDT)
Aye. Stats/map view added. The geometry changes are actually not that extensive. The one secret sector remained the same. A note on the map view differences: the group of seven attic variants (at least that's what they look like to me, haven't played the map) in the northwest are not new, I just happened to have cropped those in the original release (don't remember why).
The External links section should however have a (reliable) link to the original release to correlate with this info, now that the official location has been updated. --Xymph (talk) 16:10, 28 April 2025 (CDT)
The original release is available at archive.org (upload date is May 16, 2023). I'll add that to the article. The version of the PK3 in that one is from April 16, 2023. It's not v1.0 (which would be nice to have as well) but original enough for out purposes in terms of map layout and areas (actually precedes the version of the PK3 that was available in Veddge's Google Drive folder before this latest update). --Gregor (talk) 23:07, 28 April 2025 (CDT)
Under optional areas it mentions the purpose of unplugging/plugging in the TV in the yellow room isn't known (other than the static on all TVs). The update adds content. Plugging the TV in allows a new ending: plug TV in -> go to fake beach and a TV is now present -> use TV -> teleport to part of the house as a set -> exit to reverse house (bathroom mirror no longer works to go to normal, but will give a sound effect) -> exiting house will make it disappear /w for sale sign (still reversed) -> grave area now a bench with a Mountain Dew can and picture. 01May2025 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.156.71.48 (talk)
